Trifonov plays Beethoven's Emperor

May 3-4, 2019

Program and Description

GLUCK: Dance of the Furies and Dance of the Blessed Spirits from Orpheus and Eurydice
BEETHOVEN: Piano Concerto No. 5, Emperor
ARVO PÄRT: Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten
STRAVINSKY: Symphony in C

What’s interesting about this concert:

• Hailed as “the most astounding pianist of our age,” (The Times, London) Grammy winner Daniil Trifonov makes his Cincinnati debut.
• The Emperor— a fitting epithet for a powerful work and Beethoven’s last piano concerto.
• Gluck and Beethoven’s innovative works complement contemporary compositions by Stravinsky and Pärt which trace modernity onto the past.

This is a special concert and not part of a series package.
