Beethoven Revolution

The last installment of this season’s Beethoven Revolution takes place May 11–13, when Louis Langrée leads the CSO in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, in which soaring French horns set the scene for one of the great finales in all music.

Letter from the President | May 2018

In my first letter as CSO President last fall, I expressed how thrilled I was to be back in Ohio and to be part of the Cincinnati community. I was new in town, the Orchestra was fresh off a  successful three-week European tour, and all eyes were on the opening of Music Hall following an extensive renovation project. To say this organization was running on all cylinders would be an understatement, and I am pleased to report the season has gone exceptionally well, though I am not really sure we ever took our foot off the gas pedal.

For over 55 years, the Academy Award-winning film adaptation of West Side Story has been woven into our cultural landscape. West Side Story is of course a retelling of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet set against the backdrop of 1950s New York.

Star Wars is an accepted cultural phenomenon. It is everywhere and often lampooned, but if you were a kid when those words—“Star Wars”—first burst onto the screen accompanied by that matching burst of sound from the orchestra in 1977, it was truly awe-inspiring.
