A Letter from the President | September 2016
Welcome to the Taft Theatre! This is our home away from home while Music Hall undergoes an historic renovation.
The Taft opened in 1928 and hosted performances by the greatest performers of the 20th century, including Jascha Heifetz, Fritz Kreisler, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Duke Ellington, Carol Channing, George Gershwin, Burl Ives, Marian Anderson, Katharine Hepburn and Vladimir Horowitz, to name a few.
This month marks the beginning of a stellar season with some of the greatest artists of the 21st century performing with the CSO and Pops, and we’re delighted to have you along on this extraordinary journey with us.
Of course, making your experience here with us at the Taft a great one has been a top priority. As we prepared for the season, we invested in further improvements for the auditorium and other spaces in the Taft, and many of these enhancements are the result of feedback from you, our audiences.
We’re pleased to share with you the addition of two new ADA compliant restrooms off the main lobby, a second set of doors to the inner auditorium entrances to protect the auditorium from outside noise, new front exterior entry doors to reduce sound coming from the street, new railings and augmented house lighting for enhanced safety, a repositioned box office for better customer support, more wayfinding signage, new benches throughout the lobby spaces, and a new ramp connecting the Taft Theatre to the Masonic Center next door to better assist individuals with mobility issues.
These improvements come on top of over $3 million worth of improvements made in 2011, including new, larger seats, greatly increased restroom capacity, many cosmetic improvements, and central air conditioning. I promise we will do everything possible to make your experience with us outstanding, and we continue to welcome feedback to make your next experience with us even better. We strive for each week of this incredible season to be better than the last.
Thank you for joining us and we look forward to seeing you all season long!
