Program and Description

Adolphus HAILSTORK: An American Port of Call
James LEE III: Sukkot Through Orion's Nebula
PRICE: Piano Concerto in One Movement
Symphony No. 1, Afro-American Symphony

What’s interesting about this concert:

• Florence Price’s Piano Concerto is performed by its preeminent interpreter, Louis Schwizgebel.
• Adolphus Hailstork muses on an American port city, rising composer James Lee III finds sublimity in the stars and William Grant Still seeks to frame jazz styles in symphonic form.
• Duke Ellington, one of the most profound and prolific creators in history, performed and recorded with the Cincinnati Symphony. His Harlem takes us on a stroll through the neighborhood on a Sunday morning.

This concert is part of Series 1.
