Beethoven's Eroica

February 23-24, 2019

Program and Description

BEETHOVEN: Egmont Overture
Violin Concerto, Concentric Paths
Symphony No. 3, Eroica

What’s interesting about this concert:

• Beethoven’s Third Symphony, a revolutionary work and fitful demonstration of the composer’s mindful intellect working out themes to their purposeful and powerful conclusions.
• Beethoven dedicated the Third Symphony to Napoleon Bonaparte but tore away the reference once Napoleon crowned himself emperor.
• Awarded a MacArthur Fellowship in 2008 for her unique contributions through contemporary music, violinist Leila Josefowicz is an ideal interpreter of Adès’ Concentric Paths.

This concert is part of Series 3.
