Beethoven's Eroica

February 23-24, 2019

Program and Description

BEETHOVEN: Egmont Overture
THOMAS ADÈS:
Violin Concerto, Concentric Paths
BEETHOVEN:
Symphony No. 3, Eroica

What’s interesting about this concert:

• Beethoven’s Third Symphony, a revolutionary work and fitful demonstration of the composer’s mindful intellect working-out themes to their purposeful and powerful conclusions.
• Beethoven dedicated the Third Symphony to Napoleon Bonaparte but tore away the reference once Napoleon crowned himself emperor.
• Awarded a MacArthur Fellowship in 2008 for her unique contributions through contemporary music, violinist Leila Josefowicz is an ideal interpreter of Adès’ Concentric Paths.

This concert is part of Series 3.

Get inside the minds of composers and to the heart of the music with Classical Conversations, one hour before Friday, Saturday and Sunday Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra subscription concerts.
