Brahms Fest

January 6, 2017

Program and Description

Verdi, celebrated for his operas, decided to do something he had never before attempted: compose a string quartet. The result was the delightful String Quartet in E Minor, music that is decidedly operatic in theme and intensity. In honor of the CSO’s Brahms Festival, the program closes with Brahms’ Serenade No. 1: music of sublime beauty, pastoral in nature and permeated with joyful exuberance. The Serenade will be performed in its original form for strings, woodwinds and French horn.
