Autumn Spirits

November 11, 2016

Program and Description

This program of highly inventive music opens with a folk-infused trio by Aram Khachaturian (of “Sabre Dance” fame) and includes a lilting work by avant-garde composer Ernst Toch and a powerful, rhythmic piece by American composer Kevin Puts. Beethoven’s bold and lyrical Ghost Piano Trio is so named because of its eerie Largo movement, whose themes were derived from sketches Beethoven had made for the witches’ scene in an opera based on Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
