Director of Artistic Administration
Position Summary: The Director of Artistic Administration creates and implements a wide variety of artistic initiatives, including season programming, commissioning, special artistic projects, and recording projects in collaboration with CSO Music Director Louis Langrée and May Festival (MF) Principal Conductor Juanjo Mena. He/she currently supervises one manager-level employee, the Assistant Artistic Administrator.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Lead the planning of engaging and artistically significant programming for the CSO and MF, in coordination with the CSO Music Director, MF Principal Conductor, guest conductors, soloists and choruses for all CSO and MF subscription concerts, as well as special concerts, tours and electronic media projects.
• Engage guest artists/conductors for all such programs; negotiate contracts and riders to maximize artistic goals while balancing financial parameters.
• Identify and pursue opportunities to elevate the Orchestra throughout the Greater Cincinnati region through deeper artistic partnerships across targeted sectors.
• Work with CSO/MF staff, CSO Musicians’ Advisory Committee and the MF Advisory Committee to track qualitative project metrics and conduct post-initiative evaluations.
• Coordinate guest artist appearances to benefit goals in other areas, such as philanthropy, marketing, and education/community engagement, being sure these appearances are part of contract negotiations.
• Contract for and manage production deadlines for commissioned works, in cooperation with the Principal Librarian, including instrumentation, music copying and delivery.
• Advise on the commissioning of new music and search for new compositions.
• Actively search for new guest artists and conductors for possible appearances with the CSO; seek out and foster relationships with a variety of artistic collaborators, such as visual artists, directors, and designers.
• Represent the CSO outside of Cincinnati in cultivating positive relationships with conductors, artists, composers and artist managers.
• Develop relationships with artists that position the CSO and MF as a welcoming, world-class performance environment; supervise logistical follow-up as it relates to the Music Director, guest conductors, soloists and visiting composers, including visas, hotels, transportation, rehearsal orders, rehearsal and performance schedules, hospitality, etc.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Interpersonal skills – the individual will work cooperatively with others within the production department and other departments across the Orchestra.
Reporting Relationship: The Director of Artistic Administration reports to the Vice President & General Manager.
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 5-7 years of direct artistic administration experience with a performing arts organization.
• Possession of a broad network of peers within the performing arts world;
• Portfolio of commissioning and development of new work, and;understanding of the important role that community engagement plays in the future of orchestras
