Preconcert Multimedia Presentation
“The World of Gustav Mahler”
by Gilbert Kaplan
•Fri. Oct. 17, 6:30 pm
•Sat. Oct. 18, 6:30 pm

Mahler once said “My time will come,” and it certainly has. Audiences today are swept up by the joy, the tragedy, the sheer life of Mahler’s symphonies. What is it about his music that moves us so profoundly, that touches us in such a personal way? Perhaps more than any other composer, Mahler was capable of expressing feelings in his music. He said that a symphony “must be like the world: it must embrace everything.”
Just prior to the concerts of Mahler’s Second Symphony, Gilbert Kaplan, one of the foremost authorities on Gustav Mahler, will deliver a multimedia presentation (free to ticket holders) ― with more than 150 projected images of historical photographs and illustrations along with 30 recorded musical excerpts. This widely anticipated presentation will take us on a journey through Mahler’s remarkable music and his unique life.
