Seminar Series

The Science beyond the Music & Medicine

Musicians are like athletes. Each pushes his or her body to perform at the highest level. Musicians must be careful to protect their bodies from the wear and tear of repetitive motion stress when practicing and performing. An understanding of how to avoid injury is vital for a musician's health and well-being. This seminar will offer musicians at all levels–professionals, amateurs and students–access to a certified Mercy Health Orthopedic physician who will, with a CSO musician's help, explain the intricacies of a musician's movement, proper posture, alignment, coordination and overall physical well-being while playing an instrument. This lecture demonstration format between a Mercy Health physician and a CSO musician will provide practical insights and answer your questions about how to stay at the top of your musical game.

Dec. 6, 2012 2 PM – Mercy Health - Anderson Hospital, Atrium
On December 6, the CSO and Mercy Health celebrated the launch of this new partnership with a kickoff event in the Mercy Health—Anderson Hospital atrium. The CSO Brass Trio performed a program of holiday music to a crowd of patients, visitors and hospital staff. The enthusiastic crowd even engaged in an impromptu question-and-answer session with the musicians.
