Holiday Greetings from the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra! HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS is an exceptionally diverse collection of Yuletide classics—including "Deck the Halls," "O Holy Night" with powerhouse tenor Rodrick Dixon, and New York Voices' jazzy twist on "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town," alongside Gounod's "Ave Maria" and "Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus," which cleverly combines Edward Elgar's "Nimrod" from Enigma Variations with text from an 1897 editorial in the New York Sun, narrated by Broadway star Brian Stokes Mitchell and expressing the child-like wonderment we all feel during the holiday season. This disc is the culmination of a year-long celebration of the inaugural season of Pops Conductor John Morris Russell.
The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra has released its first recording under Conductor John Morris Russell. The recording, titled Home for the Holidays, features the May Festival Chorus under the direction of Robert Porco, popular tenor Rodrick Dixon, Broadway and film star Brian Stokes Mitchell, the popular vocal group New York Voices, and the Winton Woods High School Varsity Ensemble under the direction of David Bell. This highly anticipated release continues the tradition of great Cincinnati Pops holiday albums including Christmas with the Pops, released in 1990, and Christmas Time is Here, released in 2006. Home for the Holidays was recorded at historic Music Hall on December 12, 2011. The album has been released on the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s recording label, Fanfare Cincinnati, and is available at the Orchestra’s Bravo Shop, Macy's, iTunes, and Amazon.
The Home for the Holidays recording project was made possible by generous support from Anne Heldman.
